Rising sign calculator

Find your rising sign, also called your ascendant, in a few seconds. You will also see your Sun and Moon signs and what is in each of your twelve houses.

What your rising sign means

If your Sun sign is who you are, your rising sign is how you come across: the energy you walk into a room with and the impression people form before they know you. It also starts your 1st house, Self, so it decides which sign sits on every one of your twelve houses. That is why two people with the same star sign can seem nothing alike.

Questions

What is a rising sign?

Your rising sign, or ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was coming up over the eastern horizon at the minute you were born. It describes the first impression you give and the way you meet the world, and it starts your 1st house, so it sets up all twelve of your houses.

Why do I need my birth time?

The rising sign changes roughly every two hours as the Earth turns, so two people born on the same day can have different rising signs. Without a time, the calculator can still show your planets by sign, but not your rising sign or houses.

Is my rising sign the same as my star sign?

Usually not. Your star sign is your Sun sign, which depends only on the date. Your rising sign depends on the exact time and place, so it is often a different sign altogether.

How accurate is this calculator?

It uses the same astronomy and Placidus house system as the Houses app. The result is only as accurate as the birth time you enter, so a time from a birth certificate is best. If you were born close to a sign change, a few minutes can make a difference.

Do you store my birth details?

No. Your details are used to work out your chart and are not stored. The place you type is looked up with a free mapping service to find its coordinates.
