Saturn is retrograde. Time for a gentle audit of your own rules.

Every so often a planet seems to stop and drift backwards across the sky. It isn't really reversing, but astrologers read these stretches as a time to review rather than rush.

SATURN is retrograde now, until 12 Dec 2026. The next one is 11 Aug to 25 Dec 2027. Dates are approximate, give or take a day.

What's happening

Saturn seems to move backwards because Earth passes it on the inside, even though it is only slowing in our view. Astrologers say it asks you to review your commitments and the structures you have built.

Making the most of it

Check your foundations: habits, boundaries and promises you made on autopilot.

What it tends to feel like

Pressure eases a little, but old responsibilities come back for review. You may notice where your rules are not working, where you have taken on too much, or where something you built needs fixing. It can feel heavy, but it is often a relief afterwards.

What to be careful with

Ignoring problems with structures in your life, such as work, money or commitments, because they will tend to come back around. It is also not the best time to take on a large new responsibility without thinking it through.

What it is good for

Reviewing your goals, finishing long projects, fixing what is not working and setting fairer boundaries. It is a good time to ask whether the rules you live by are yours or someone else's.

How often and how long

Saturn is retrograde about once a year for around four and a half months. Like Jupiter, it is common enough to be a background theme, felt most in the house of your chart it is moving through.

Born with Saturn retrograde

If Saturn was retrograde when you were born, you may set your own standards rather than follow the ones you were given, and be harder on yourself than others are. Learning to go easier on yourself is often part of the work.

Saturn retrograde in each house

You feel it most in the house of your chart it is moving through. Here is what Saturn brings to each one. When it is retrograde, the same themes come back for a second look.

I Self →Building a stronger you. Saturn in your 1st house asks you to take yourself seriously. It can feel heavy at times, but you come out clearer about who you are. II Worth →Learning to feel secure. With Saturn in your 2nd house, your relationship with money and self-worth gets tested. Slow, steady effort builds security that actually lasts. III Voice →Choosing your words carefully. Saturn in your 3rd house brings more serious thinking and communication. Learning takes effort, but what you study now really sticks. IV Roots →Strengthening your foundations. Home and family become a place of responsibility while Saturn crosses your 4th house. It can be demanding, but it's also when you build roots that hold. With Saturn in your 8th house, you're asked to work through trust, intimacy and shared resources. It's slow, but it builds real emotional strength. IX Distance →Earning your wisdom. Saturn in your 9th house tests what you believe. Travel or study may take more effort, but the knowledge you gain is truly your own. X Calling →The long climb pays off. With Saturn in your 10th house, your career and reputation are under construction. Hard work gets noticed, and responsibility often comes with real recognition. XI Circle →Fewer friends, better ones. Saturn in your 11th house refines your social circle and long-term goals. Some friendships fade, and the ones that remain are solid. XII Depth →Clearing out the attic. With Saturn in your 12th house, you're asked to face old patterns and quiet fears. It's inner work that prepares the ground for a fresh start.

Why planets seem to go backwards

Planets never actually reverse. We watch them from Earth, which is also moving, so now and then one appears to slow, stop and drift back across the sky, the way a car you overtake on the motorway seems to slide backwards. Astrologers call this retrograde. They read it as a time to revisit, review and redo rather than push ahead, and the effect is felt most in the house the planet is passing through.

About Saturn

Saturn is structure, limits and the slow, steady work of growing up. It can feel strict, but it's the teacher whose praise you actually remember.
